About Tara Housh
I’ve learned that sometimes the life you never planned becomes the one you were always meant to live.
I’m Tara Housh—an author, traveler, mother of three, and a woman who has learned more than once that beginning again can be its own kind of adventure.
I write emotionally rich women’s fiction about women standing at the edge of the life they thought they would have and discovering what might be waiting on the other side. My stories explore friendship, resilience, travel, heartbreak, courage, and the messy, beautiful process of finding yourself again.
But long before I called myself an author, I was someone who loved stories.
And for a long time, I was also someone who had a habit of believing other people were capable of things I wasn't.
Then life changed.
Somewhere between unexpected endings, raising three children, building a career, earning a doctorate, traveling to places that once existed only on my bucket list, and learning to say yes to things that scared me, I stopped waiting to feel ready.
I started living the stories I had always imagined.
And eventually, I started writing them.
The World Has a Way of Finding Its Way Into My Stories
Travel is woven into almost everything I write because it has changed the way I see the world—and myself.
I’ve watched the Northern Lights dance across the Icelandic sky. I’ve stood on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. I’ve wandered through Greece, explored Alaska, and found myself staring at a brilliant rainbow over the mountains of Panama at a time in my life when I desperately needed the reminder that something beautiful could still appear after a storm.
That rainbow eventually became part of the inspiration for my debut novel, Rainbow Season.
I live in Arkansas, but I’m happiest with a passport nearby, hiking shoes packed, and another place on the horizon. Sometimes I travel for adventure. Sometimes for perspective. And sometimes because getting very far away from your ordinary life is exactly what you need to see it clearly.
Those experiences inevitably find their way onto the page—not necessarily exactly as they happened, but in the emotions, places, questions, and possibilities my characters encounter.
Why I Write
I write for women who have ever looked at their lives and wondered:
Is this really how the story ends?
I write about the answer I’ve come to believe:
It doesn’t have to.
There can be another chapter after heartbreak. There can be adventure after fear. There can be joy you didn't see coming, friendships that hold you together, places that change you, and versions of yourself you haven't even met yet.
Sometimes starting over isn't the end of the story.
Sometimes it's where the story finally gets good.
And Now, Rainbow Season
My debut novel, Rainbow Season, is a story about heartbreak, healing, friendship, adventure, and the courage to choose yourself when the life you planned suddenly disappears.
It was inspired in part by experiences, emotions, and places that are deeply personal to me—but Paige Martin’s story is entirely her own.
And while Rainbow Season may be my first novel, it certainly won't be the last story I have to tell.
I’m just getting started.
